LA continues to be one of the epicenters of electronic music culture, and there is no shortage of talent expanding the scene. Proof was the first-ever live performance of promising new artist BUD, who threw an EP release party at the El Cid venue on the east-side of Los Angeles on December 9th.
Celebrating along with BUD was a small but energetic crowd of supporters as well as guest performers and DJs. I caught the opener from d.jcol who spun a set of commercialish dance crowd pleasers, which was followed by a performance by han.irl, a singer from Tennessee who delivered what I can only call a “spunky” performance.
Following was a set by local DJ Tuju which was all over the place genre-wise, but the college-age crowd ate it up nonetheless. He played everything from trap to “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” — something you’d might expect a frat party DJ to do, and it worked!
BUD himself then took to the stage for a bit of drum n bass DJing, followed by a live performance of tracks from his new EP “From Ashes.” At this point, I split in order to make a few deadlines, but the crowd was still eating up his energetic performance, which to be honest was great for a newcomer. Festival-ready, in fact! Kudos to all the performers for a fun night!
From the press release: “From Ashes: In his first EP, BUD tells the story of a young person rebuilding their life through tribulations. The EP includes collaborations with Hannah Hausman and LAST NYTE. The final song of the EP is a reprise featuring spoken word poetry by the award-winning Jade Spilka. The EP is a metaphor for bringing light into darkness.
“BUD: Los Angeles-based producer, DJ, and mixing engineer forged his production style growing up in Eastern Tennessee. Born William Perryman, the producer took on his grandfather’s name “Bud.” With a house-infused vibe, elegant melodies, and alluring vocals, it is no surprise that BUD has amassed over 550 pre-saves and over 27,000 streams on his last single. This up-and-comer has performed in football stadiums and clubs all across the Southeast and has produced songs that have over 1.5 million Spotify streams.”
The EP is available Dec 10. Check it out here on his Linktree: https://linktr.ee/BUD.music
