The Benefits of Moving to a Big City After College

Big cities have their fair share of negatives, but this should not deter anyone from moving to a city after college. Throughout college, you hang out in many spaces with lots of people and have easy access to food and events. If you move to a small town, you lose all that. Read on to see the benefits of moving to a bigger city after college.

Meet People

The big city has a lot going for it, as it sees millions of people coming in and out every day. Since there are so many people, meeting people and creating connections in the big city is easy. Because of the size and scope, stepping out and meeting people will feel alienating, so you will need to put yourself out there. After making that initial step and going to events, the connections will come naturally. Whether you’re going to work socializers, video game tournaments, concerts, trivia nights, or anything in between, you are sure to meet people with whom you’ll make lifelong connections.

Public Transportation

One of the most significant reasons why you should move to a big city after college is the public transportation. In a small town, you will need to get in a car and drive to get almost anywhere special or happening. Alternatively, in the big city, you can hop on the subway and be there in half the time. Even when it takes a little longer, you have time to read or browse your phone. Cities are even working to improve subway tunnel cell service. Soon, you can fully immerse yourself in whatever you’re doing without worrying about losing connection.

Expanded Worldview

On top of meeting new people and the ability to go out, the city also offers you an expanded worldview. In small towns, you can still go to parties and events and meet people, but often, these communities are incredibly insular. Most people are similar or share similar worldviews and experiences, with the exception here and there. Alternatively, in cities, friend groups and communities are brought together by their differences and the diversity of their experiences. By staying in the city, you can become privy to these ideas and understand the world and people better than you would if you lived in a smaller town.

Moving to a big city after college can seem daunting as it will be a new place, expensive, and you’ll feel like a fish out of water, but it is worth it. The big city will also provide opportunities to find yourself and create your own life path instead of stumbling into what is convenient and comfortable. You don’t even need to live there permanently, but just long enough to see how much bigger the world is than you may think.
